Marina

The centre of Gdynia is opening up to sailors. A modern marina, that will accommodate up to 500 sailors, together with extensive hotel and conference facilities, will be built in Al. Jana Pawła II Street in Gdynia. The multifunctional building will also house the sailing and yacht clubs that operate in Gdynia.

The design created by Studio Architektoniczne Kwadrat won the architectural competition for the best concept of the New Marina building. Four design studios competed for the main prize.

The winning design includes simple strong forms and a horizontal layout of the building. Its architectural features refer to the concept of modernism, which is strongly represented in the city. The New Marina will be a yachting centre. The area of 19 thousand sq m will house the headquarters of four clubs: ZHP, Gryf, Stal, Yacht Klub Polski Gdynia, as well as Arka Gdynia. One half of New Marina will be used for catering, hotel and commercial facilities. The building will also have space for rental offices, conference rooms, a swimming pool, canteen, and patio.

The new marina will be finished by 2017. The City fervently hopes that it will organise the World Sailing Championships that take place in 2018 and that the new marina will be an excellent base for this event. It should be noted that the organisation of the event would be impossible without professional facilities that accommodate 400-500 sailors.
